Upon completing Masters degree in Neurosurgery at the University of Pretoria in 2012, Dr Thobejane was recruited by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to establish neurosurgical unit and services at the northern region (Oshana) of Namibia, Ongwediva.
He provided neurosurgical services to patients suffering from craniospinal trauma, oncology and vascular pathologies.
Subsequently established a neurosurgical unit at Erongo region (Walvis Bay), Namibia.
Whilst providing neurosurgical services to the Nambian population, Dr Thobejane identified lack of pain management services / specialist in Namibia and that is where his interest in pain management grew.
He then obtained a Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management (FIPP) with the World Institute of Pain (WIP) in 2015, with interest in neuropathic pain and neuromodulation.
Dr Thobejane returned to South Africa in 2016 to join Spine Africa at Zuid Afrikaans Hospital, a highly specialized spinal team, wherein he received extensive training and certification in minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal motion preservation techniques including endoscopic spine surgery – offering patients tailor-made solutions for various spinal pathologies.
Given his experience and clinical acumen, Dr Thobejane was appointed in key leadership positions by his peers, he became president of World Institute of Pain (Africa Section), deputy president of Pain South Africa and appointed ABIME Board Advisor representing Southern Africa.
He was also an adjunct lecturer at University of Namibia, before he became a sessional consultant at the department of neurosurgery in Steve Biko Academic Hospital, Pretoria
He has given presentations in local and international platforms, including but not limited to Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa, South African Spine Society, PainSA, WIP (Africa) and World Veterinary Congress.
Offered training and workshops in minimally invasive spine surgery, interventional pain techniques, a proctor to multiple institutions including surgeon to surgeon training.
